On the Stalinist Policies and Achievements

Joseph Stalin

Stalin's policies can be characterized, from my point of view, as being pragmatic, well-planned, serious and ambitious. He knew very well that when the Bolshevik seized power in Russia, feudalism was still roaming throughout the country and it was in a dire economical and technological situation. His plans and policies sought to modernize Russia in around a decade so that the Country will be able to face the Foreign Imperialists.

"We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We must make up this gap in ten years. Either we do it or they will crush us." Joseph Stalin

Yet, he managed to bring the Country from the ruins of War and to make it one of the World's Superpower, in terms of Economy, Military, and so on.

Of course, such a huge and grandious leap cannot be made without effort. The Soviet Men and Women showed great courage, bravery, patriotism and dedication to the Socialist cause by taking this task into their hands, working day and night and committing deeds of heroism so that the Industrialization of the Country could take place.

Regarding the Collectivization Policy implemented by Stalin by year 1928, it sought to reform the agricultural system by thus creating a socialist-based agriculture. Cooperative Farms were thus made and the Farmers were practically forced to enlist in the new system.

Collectivization did not have such a positive effect in the first years of its implementation, due to several factors, but gradually, it was visible that the Agriculture had taken another path, the path of Socialism.

Another Stalinist Policy was the one called "The Great Purge", which affected the State Apparatus, the Red Army and implicitly, the Party. It is foolish to believe that Stalin, knowing about the threats awaiting outside the border of the Soviet Union, would start to "decapitate the elite of the Red Army", thus, creating a flaw in the defense of the Soviet Union. I have documented myself very well, and I can guarantee you that it is a myth that Stalin liquidated the "professionals" of the Red Army. A very reknown figure of the Great Purge is Comrade Tukhachevsky, who was one of the most proeminent military figures at its time. Not many know though that in reality, he was not a military genius, and that he never distinguished himself in the Bolshevik Revolution with any tactical victory, but only with barbarity, and aswell betrayed and sided with the Polish for a period. At the same time, the Party was liquidated from a collective of opportunists or of members who represented a threat to the Soviet Union, during Stalin's time.

At the very end, I would like to emphasize once again the achievements obtained by Stalin through his policies, and as for this, I would like present a quote

"If Stalin had accomplished for the world bourgeoisie what he did for the world proletariat, he would have long been hailed in bourgeois circles as one of the "greats" of all time, not only of the present century. The same general criteria should apply to Stalin's reputation from the Marxist point of view. Stalin advanced the position of the world proletariat further than any person in history with the exception of Lenin. True, without the base Lenin laid, Stalin could not have built, but using this base he moved about as far as was possible in the existing situation. In short a new class of world leader has emerged, and Stalin is in its highest rank." Cameron, Kenneth Neill
